Another Successful Winter Festival

Marking success for twelve years running, the Levittown Community Council hosted its annual WinterFest at Levittown Hall recently. There was entertainment, crafts, raffles prizes and a chance to meet and mingle with neighbors and it was all free.

P. A. L. Twirlers, MisMatch the Clown, Long Island Puppet Theater and Maestro Music Center entertained throughout the day. Levittown Kiwanis provided face painting and temporary tattoos and was giving away childrens’ books in conjunction with the New York State Kiwanis Governor’s project. Chiropractors from Turnpike Medical gave medical massages throughout the day; New York Life provided Ident-A-Kits for children; Levittown Library gave away books, videos and CDs, Nassau County Department of Consumer Affairs was on hand to answer consumers’ questions and distribute helpful information, and representatives of the Levittown Historical Society signed up performers for its annual Levittown’s Got Talent contest. Kids and adults were excited by the Nassau Lionel Operating Engineers model train display.

Other contributors of cash and prizes included: Andy Cleaners, Astoria Federal, Bethpage Federal Credit Union, Carvel Ice Cream, Mauro and Louise Cassano, Dalton Funeral Homes, East Village Stationery, Ferlise Photographers, Jane Finkelstein, Green Nails, Kiddee Junction, Irene Kohlman, LevitStyle, Levittown Lanes, Little Gym, Long Island Hearing, Main Street Financial, New Magic Nails and Spa, Don and Pat Patane, Peking House, Rhythms and Soul Dance Studio, Turnpke Cleaners and Lowell and Mary Wolf.

An abundance of crafts provided creative activities for the children and a free raffle yielded more than 50 winners with a variety of donated prizes. Winners of the Council’s Home for the Holidays and Halloween Horror House contests were introduced and awarded cash prizes as well as a year’s free family membership in the Council.

A super raffle was held with a 40” flat screen television donated by Jay’s Appliance of Levittown, a toolbox with tools donated by C.M.S. Handyman Hands; and imported champagne donated by Fedway Imports going to lucky winners.

The event was chaired by Louise Cassano, recording secretary of the Community Council with a committee that included Vice Presidents Tom Kohlman and Pat Patane, Corresponding Secretary Mary Kay Ross, Treasurer Ginny Isola, Member Donald Patane, Community Liaison Frank McKenna, Membership Chair Mauro Cassano, and dozens of volunteers from the community, Key Clubs from G. C. Tech and MacArthur High School and other organizations. Submitted by the Levittown Community Council.
