Evan of East Meadow runs a collectibles business called Raccoon City, Home of Umbrella, which is known for the expansive selection of Resident Evil collectibles. He was one of the guest vendors at the recent Eternal Con, comic convention at the Cradle of Aviation.
“Resident Evil: Biohazard, this is the most highly rated collectables at this time,” said Evan, comparing Resident Evil’s popularity to that of Star Wars in the 80s.
Resident Evil, the media franchise, began in 1996 as a video game about survival horror, and quickly expanded to film, comic books, novels, and action figure toys.
Most of the pieces in Evan’s collection are from 1999 through 2002. He prefers the older series of the collectibles, some which sell on auction sites, like Ebay, for hundreds of dollars.
“Resident Evil is the most traded collectible on Ebay,” said Evan. He owns proto-types and originals and defective packaging collectibles, in addition to rare color versions.
“When I was younger I wanted to get every item, but when I started collecting and selling, almost everything in the series has passed through my hands at some point,” said Evan.
Evan said most of the manufacturers and distributors of the Resident Evil collectibles have gone out of business, making it harder to get a hold good quality pieces at times.
He owns about 300 collectibles total, but he said that number is changing all of the time, depending on how much he sells or trades.
