Congratulations to the MacArthur Varsity Cheerleading Squad, coached by Lisa Nessler, for the excellent exhibition of sportsmanship and camaraderie that they displayed at the football game on Saturday, Oct. 30. At halftime, the fans were treated to a joint cheer provided by both the MacArthur and Freeport High School squads. The girls on both teams know each other from regional tournaments, although they do not compete in the same division. Nessler, along with Freeport coaches Laurie Kolodny and Cheryl Gayle, choreographed the cheer that suited both squads’ talents and abilities, and arranged for two practices.
The Generals’ co-captain, Dominique Micheletti was thrilled with the performance and the reception of the crowd.
“It was so much fun; we all couldn’t wait until halftime,” said Micheletti. “[We] knew that the game was a big rivalry, so we hoped that we could do our part to promote a spirit of friendship and unity in the face of tough competition.”
The girls did, indeed, model the values of teamwork and cooperation that we aim to instill in all of our extra-curricular activities.
