On Saturday, April 26 at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, PA, Kadeem Howell tripled jumped 46 ft. 7 ins. for a personal best and was a finalist with 22 of the best jumpers from U.S. and West Indies competing. The Manhasset senior also won the St. Anthony's Invitational and the Glen Loucks games in recent weeks.
Manhasset's outdoor varsity team finished their league record last week - 12 wins and one loss with wins over North Shore, Valley Stream South and Seaford. The team hosted the 19th Annual Booster Club-Allen Dawson-Gold Coast Relays May 13 with 10 top local boys and girls schools and 500 athletes.
The top scorers for the boys track team in league and Invitational meets this spring have been: hurdlers (110HH, 400IH) - Mario Gagliano, Ryan Sprotte; Sprints (100m, 200m) - Kadeem Howell (10:9), Charlie Howell (11:6); 400 meters, Anthony Loschiano (54:5); 800 meters - David Knowles (2.07), Joe Zahn (2:09); 1600 meters - John Nestor (4:44), David Knowles (4:45), Andrew Choi (4:58); 3200 meters - David Knowles (10:34), Joe Nassirian (10:38), John Nestor (10:51); 3000 meter steeplechase - David Knowles (10:34). Matt Canozzo, Theo Baktidy, Tom Welsh, Patrick Love and Peter Massey have scored in the relay races 400 meters, 1600 meters and 3200 meters.
The field events (five) have probably scored the most points in total as track meets are truly a team sport. The shot-putters - Chris Jordonne (46'9"), Vincent Rizzo (41'3") and Todd Sanders (41'11") have been the strongest three scorers on the team. Chris Jordonne (122'5"), Vincent Rizzo (126'5") and Esop Baek (117'5") in the discus throw have been equally strong. Stu Hick (5'10") and Todd Sanders have led the high jump to many wins. The long jumps and triple jumpers have not lost due to Kadeem Howell (22'7"), (46'7") and Stu Hicks (21'6-1/2") (38'8").
The team now is preparing for the championship meets - Divisionals, Counties, Easterns, States and Nationals.
