Manhasset's Boys Track Coach Don Scott and three senior athletes, Kareem Howell, Chris Jordonne and Vincent Rizzo, were recently honored by the Manhasset Board of Education, Nassau Track Coaches Association, Nassau Track and Field Officials Association and the New York State Public Schools Athletic Association.

Coach Scott on Monday, April 7, recorded his 500th outdoor track win at Manhasset High School. Coach Scott arrived at Manhasset in 1968 after coaching in Virginia (Stafford County) in 1967-1968 and winning a state championship in 1968. Coach Scott's record at Manhasset now stands at 507-20 in outdoor track, winning five county championships, 25 division and conference championships, 27 undefeated seasons, nine All-Americans and six New York State champions. This record stands as third place all-time for outdoor track in New York State.

Kadeem Howell set his personal best in the triple jump, 47' 6 1/2" at the New York State meet in Buffalo for second place on June 12 - 13. Howell is a three-time all-New York State athlete who jumped in the nationals on June 21 in North Carolina.

Kadeem won the Manhasset All-Sports award in Manhasset 2008; Daniel Creem scholarship; Allen Dawson scholarship and the Nassau County Paul Krause award on June 17 as Nassau County's Track and Field 2008 Athlete of the Year.

Chris Jordonne, a shot-putter, discus thrower, won the Allen Dawson trophy for All-Sports; Manhasset Booster Club's Most Improved Athlete award; several school scholarships and was undefeated during the track season throwing 51' 1/2", the best in 40 years for All-County and third ranked in Nassau County.

Vincent Rizzo, a top football player, was a shot-putter in track but excelled in the discus during his first year in that event. Rizzo improved to throw 136' 5" for the top senior ranking in Nassau County and missed the state meet by 2 inches. Vincent won All-County honors.

All three athletes will compete in college and on June 24 competed for a place on the 2008 New York State Empire team against college athletes.
