I read the above article with great interest. The North Hempstead Republican Committee has urged the town board to forego reinstituting "Flow Control" in North Hempstead. The town board advocates for the reinstitution include Supervisor Jon Kaiman and, at least, Councilman Fred Pollack.

Councilman Pollack seems to think that opposition to Flow Control is pure politics. He is wrong. The question is not my voter registration or party affiliation, but what is the compelling public policy reason for bringing more garbage to Port Washington?

None of the advocates for this have stated any public policy need to force everyone in the town to use the Port Washington Transfer Station as the sole staging point for garbage collection in North Hempstead. The only rationale that makes any sense is that the town seeks to raise more money for its debt-ridden Solid Waste Authority, but the town denies this as the reason.

So until Councilman Pollack or any other member of the town board makes a cogent argument for forced Flow Control, I shall continue to lobby and argue against it.
