The Manhasset-Lakeville Water District will be installing a new water main in North Plandome Road along Leeds Pond in the Village of Plandome Manor. The new main will help eliminate fire flow deficiencies and ensure a safe reliable water supply for the area. The trenching work is expected to begin on April 2. The main installation is expected to take three to four weeks. Manhasset-Lakeville Water District Superintendent Paul J. Schrader asked that residents keep in mind the following:
• “Traffic on North Plandome Road between Elm Sea Lane and Stonytown Road will be limited to one lane between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. for the duration of the project. If at all possible, North Plandome Road should be avoided during the project. Flagmen will be utilized to coordinate the flow of traffic.
• “A new main will be installed under the Leeds Pond Culvert. The district is able to use a relatively new technique, directional drilling, for this aspect of the project. This technique reduces the impact of the work on the existing structures and minimizes traffic interruptions. The necessary equipment must remain on or near the roadway until the drilling is complete. We expect the drilling portion of the work to last one week.
• “The project will require service interruptions; every effort will be made to provide consumers with 24-hour advance notice prior to their water being turned off.
• “During the course of the work, residents may experience slightly discolored water. The discoloration is not harmful and can usually be eliminated by flushing the cold water taps for several minutes. If you experience a persistent problem with discoloration please contact the district for assistance at 466-4416.”
