Irma, employed at Manhasset Florists on Orchard Street, managed to arrive at work almost at her regular time in spite of the heavy, wet snowfall Friday morning, March 8. Her home in Port Washington is a mere 10-15 minute drive most days, but it took a half hour, she said, “and the problem was other cars without 4-wheel drive went too slow.”
Outside the flower shop St. Patrick’s Day banners took a beating. It sounded more like Valentine’s Day, though, to hear Irma tell it. Her husband had their sidewalk shoveled by 7:30 a.m. and had cleaned off her car, cranked up the heat and handed her a hot drink for her ride to work.
The snow caused problems early in the day but warm weather followed and by the weekend seemed an unreal memory.
