Obituary: Shirley Grace Hoelzer

Shirley Grace Hoelzer, 91, of Springfield, Illinois, formerly of Manhasset, died at 3:48 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2013, at River Birch Senior Living in Springfield.

Shirley was born December 14, 1921, in Brooklyn, the daughter of David Edward and Florence Johnson Reichenbacher. She married Robert F. Hoelzer on September 4, 1949, in Manhasset; he preceded her in death.

Shirley was a graduate of Roslyn High School. She was a former president of the North Strathmore Women’s Club and the Manhasset Community Club. She served for 25 years as a Republican Precinct Committeewoman in Manhasset. She was an avid bridge player.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and twin sister, Norma Reichenbacher.

She is survived by her son, David R. (wife, Karen L.) Hoelzer of Springfield, Ill.; three grandchildren, John D. (wife, Jeanette) Hoelzer of Laredo, Texas, William R. (wife, Emily) Hoelzer of Portland, Ore., and Kathryn A. (husband, Michael) McEvilly of Houston, Texas; one great grandchild, Oliver John Hoelzer; and sister, Ruth Faber of Wallingford, Conn.

Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
