As a member of the Manhasset Athletic Advisory Committee (MAAC) and head of its budget committee, I urge everyone in our community to vote in favor of the Locker Room/Bleacher proposition on May19. The proposition, which would authorize the use of already available capital project funds, would enable the district to replace and refurbish the locker rooms and bleachers. The project has been on the MACC facilities planning agenda for several years and is essential for not only aesthetic reasons, but to address the more important issues of safety and compliance. Site visits are offered by the district for anyone who is not familiar with the impractical, unsafe and outdated condition of the bleachers and locker rooms.
An important aspect of this proposition vote is the fact that the funds had already been dedicated in the past as part of a larger capital program and are already reserved for this project. Voting “yes” does not impose any additional financial burden on the taxpayers and merely releases the monies in the capital reserve fund so that this work can be done.
In a year of difficult financial decisions, this proposition should be an easy proposal to endorse. A vote “yes” furthers the district’s mission of providing safe and attractive facilities for our children and guests on school property, while imposing no additional financial burden on residents.
