The Healthy Living Digest section of the Feb. 18 Manhasset Press contained a piece entitled, Fetal Transplants Helping Over-60s With Parkinson’s Disease. The article dealt with a recently reported study done on 33 patients, 13 of whom were over 60.
Regardless of the “good news” (and rather chilling side effects) that might arise from this study, some very “bad news” emerges. The unborn children who supply the needed tissue don’t have a thing to gain from these experiments. The patients hoping for a cure and the medical personnel involved share a common origin with the unborn whose lives are expended in this effort: they all started life as tiny embryos.
Is it fair to take the life of one person for the benefit of another? A love of justice being a distinctly American characteristic, our answer to that question is a resounding “No!”
