St. Mary’s High School 55th Anniversary Of Sports Night

This year marks the 55th anniversary of Sports Night at Saint Mary’s High School, Manhasset.  On Friday, March 8, alumnae from all generations returned to campus to remember their days on the blue or white teams, and to support the students who continue the tradition in 2013. A committee of alumnae from all over the country worked hard to create a fun and memorable celebration.

In conjunction with this historic anniversary, St. Mary’s High School announced the establishment of the “Sister Jeanne Drummond, IHM Memorial Scholarship” as a way to celebrate the achievements of all the great women and Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) who have taught at Saint Mary’s High School for over 60 years.

Sr. Jeanne served in various capacities at St. Mary’s from 1980 until the time of her death in June 1998 including director of Academic Affairs and a mathematics teacher from 1980 to 1992, and as assistant principal from 1992 to the time of her death. She held a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and English from Marywood College and a Master of Arts degree in mathematics from Villanova University. She had been a member of the National Catholic Education Association and the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development.

Members of the Drummond family attended the event to celebrate the legacy of their beloved sister.. In two months, the scholarship has raised over $56,000 to date and will be awarded for the first time in June 2013. Whether needs based or an award of academic merit, this scholarship fund will be awarded to female students who demonstrate strong skills in teamwork and leadership.
