Manhasset Students Score At Science Competition

Manhasset students Mike Kusnierek and Pat Fahey took first place in the Engineering category at the International Sustainable World Energy Engineering Environment Project Olympiad (iSweeep) Competition in Houston, Texas. Bryan Herbert, Steven Tranchina and Aaron Tabazedah took third place in the Environmental category.

iSweeep is an international science fair that focuses on energy, engineering and environmental projects. iSweeep’s goal is to encourage high school students to explore alternative solutions for a sustainable world.

The first place winners’ submission was entitled “Engineering a Biosensor Using the Bioluminescent Algae Pyrocystis fusiformis to Detect Heavy Metal Toxicity in Water.” The third place winner in the Environmental category was called “Use of FT-IR Spectroscopy to Analyze Culturing Conditions and Biodiesel Production Techniques for Chlorella vulgaris.”
