Eagle Scout Tyler Lew's Fundraising Project

Redeemable Bottle/Can Drive

On Sunday, September 15, Eagle Scout candidate Tyler Lew of Troop 97 will be leading a redeemable bottle and can drive fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at American Legion Post 304’s parking lot, located at 27 Bayview Avenue.

If you would like to contribute bottles and cans, but are unable to get them there that day, contact Tyler Lew at (516) 365-0082 to arrange for pick-up. Recycling your cans and bottles not only supports his Eagle Scout Service Project but also helps keep our earth healthy and green by saving landfill space and conserving energy and oil.

All proceeds will go towards Tyler’s Eagle Scout Service Project, which involves painting and landscaping the parking lot at Clark Botanic Garden at 193 I.U. Willets Road in Albertson.

The purpose of his Service Project is to improve the environment by advocating the importance of recycling, going green and preserving nature. The Eagle Scout Service Project is one of the greatest challenges for a scout aspiring to the highest advancement rank in Boy Scouts. For his Eagle Project, Lew must demonstrate his ability to plan, organize, develop and provide leadership within the community.

All funds raised from the can and bottle drive will be used to purchase necessary materials and supplies needed to complete the service project and left over money will be donated to Clark Botanic Garden.

Clark Botanic Garden is a 12-acre living museum and educational facility, dedicated to understanding and appreciating the world’s plant life through horticulture, education and research. Superstorm Sandy caused major devastation there, causing the venue to close for six months. The Garden lost more than forty trees, benches, walkways and handrails were damaged. The bat houses and apiary were destroyed.

As a result of Lew’s Eagle Scout project, the Garden workers will be able to concentrate on the challenge of refurbishing, replacing and restoring the interior garden area for the community to enjoy.

Monetary donation to support his Eagle Project are welcome. Please make check payable to BSA Troop 97 and send to Tyler Lew Eagle Scout Service Project, c/o The American Legion Post 304, 27 Bayview Avenue, Manhasset, N.Y. 11030. Contributions are tax-deductible.

Your help would be greatly appreciated and will bring him one step closer to his goal of obtaining the rank of Eagle. Thank you for your support!
