A group of Manhasset girls entered their first soccer tournament recently and did amazingly well. They were placed in the top division of the Under 7 age group in the Commack tournament, which meant they were playing some of the best teams of their age on Long Island.
The girls won their first three matches 7-0, 3-0 and 3-1, which meant they only had to tie their final game against a strong Sachem team to win the entire tournament. With two minutes to go in a hard fought game the teams were tied 1-1 before a speculative Sachem shot bounced in off a post. The girls lost 2-1 but placed second in the tournament overall-quite an achievement for their first time playing together.
No fewer than six of the nine girls scored goals in the tournament.
