The Manhasset Men’s Softball League will begin its 40th consecutive year of serving the men of Manhasset on April 7. The league is now recruiting players to replace a club that disbanded last year and maintain the schedule of six clubs playing every weekend.
The target demographic for the league is men residing in Manhasset, ages 27 to 50, with softball or baseball experience.
Newcomers to Manhasset who are not aware of the league are encouraged to join up and enjoy the games with neighbors from all areas of Manhasset. The cost is minimal as the league is non-profit and collects dues just to cover expenses.
The league plays doubleheaders on Sunday mornings on local fields, beginning at 9:15 a,m, and ending usually in the 11:15 to 11:45 p.m. time frame. The games are reasonably competitive, but not cut-throat. Umpires are used and there are playoffs and a championship series at the end of the season. Games are scheduled every Sunday in the spring and fall, but the league is on hiatus during the summer (from Independence Day through Labor Day weekends) to accommodate family vacations. The schedule also excludes Mother’s Day weekend.
