NYS And Stotesbury Regattas

Manhasset High School crew team once again proved a force to be reckoned with on the water throughout their extremely successful spring “sprint racing” season.

Following strong racing performance in their opening regattas, the team continued their winning tradition at New York State Championships, a two-day competition held in Saratoga Springs, NY. The team tallied five first place state championship titles plus a third place bronze medal of Manhasset’s nine varsity boat entries. The team claimed a first place state championship title plus a second place silver medal for the novice entries. Competing for Manhasset at New York State Championships were:

Stotesbury Cup

The following weekend, select Manhasset boats were sent to compete at the oldest and largest high school rowing competition in the world. The Stotesbury Cup Regatta has been held on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia since 1927. Manhasset had nine boats entered competing against 200+ high school crew teams. Each event included a field of competition between 30 and 60 boats - coming to battle it out in 1,500-meter races over two days, hoping to bring home a coveted medal or prized cup.

Manhasset’s Girls Lightweight 4+ were the defending 2012 Stotesbury Cup Champions. In a repeat performance, they continued their winning streak. After dominating the field of 38 boats, they placed first in time trials as well as semi-finals.  They claimed first place easily with a five second lead over their nearest competitor.

The Girls Lightweight Four gold medalists and Stotesbury Cup winners were Hannah Press (coxswain), Clare McIntee, Keagan Hanley, Madeleine Diskin, and Sarah Henry.
