Denihan, Emma, Mueller, Scrafford,Stranahan, Vachris

The Manhasset Booster Club Fourth Biennial Manhasset Booster Club Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place on Saturday, Nov. 23 from 6  to 8 the Manhasset High School Gymnasium.

The Hall of Fame was created to honor those Manhasset High School athletes, coaches, and administrators who have left a permanent mark on the Manhasset community and the Manhasset School system.  This year’s Hall of Fame inductees are Daniel Denihan, Jr., Tom Emma, Glen Mueller, Vanessa Bagnato Scrafford, Jay Stranahan and Michelle Cusimano Vachris.  The Manhasset Booster Club will also be honoring the 1967 undefeated, untied Long Island Championship Manhasset Boys’ Lacrosse Team.

The six inductees have had many athletic accolades to speak about but the following is a small glimpse of their achievements.  More information on their exceptional athletic careers will be highlighted at the induction ceremony on Nov. 23.

Among many other accomplishments, Daniel Denihan, Jr. excelled as a three time Varsity letter earner in both football and lacrosse.  It was in lacrosse that he earned a two time HS All American status at Manhasset, graduating in 1995.  Tom

Emma was a former Manhasset High School basketball star, who dominated his sport in the late 1970’s and set many records at Manhasset and on Long Island.  He continued his dominance of the sport throughout his college career at Duke

University and even (delete) was drafted into the NBA.  A 1968 graduate of MHS, Glen Mueller completed a three sport, nine varsity letter high school athletic career for football, basketball and lacrosse.  Among many other recognitions, he was a key member of the 1967 MHS undefeated Long Island Championship team.  He is also the son of Fritz Mueller, Manhasset Hall of Fame’s 2009 inductee.  Vanessa Bagnato Scrafford, 1998 graduate and six year Varsity letter winner, received five All-County and All-State honors as the most celebrated female tennis player at Manhasset High School.  Jay Stranahan, Manhasset’s multi sport coach, Physical Education teacher and Director of Athletics spanning two decades from the 1930’s to the 1950’s, launched the first public High School lacrosse team at Manhasset in 1933.  And finally, Michelle Cusimano Vachris was a 1992 graduate, earning 13 Varsity letters in field hockey, lacrosse, indoor track and swimming.  In addition to many Varsity letters, she earned All County and All American status in multiple sports.  All of these athletes also achieved similar success at the college level and beyond.

It is also important to recognize the accomplishments of an entire team for their dominance in a sport.  That is the case with the 1967 Undefeated, Untied Long Island Championship Boys’ Lacrosse Team at Manhasset.  They were led by second year Coach, Renzi Lamb, and many will be in attendance to be honored.

All are welcome and encouraged to join in the celebration.  Ticket prices are $25 per adult and $10 per student child.  Refreshments will be served as well as a “Taste of Manhasset”  by local restaurant La Coquille.  Mark your calendars and bring the whole family.  For more information, please contact Lauren Barrett at 365-1034 or visit  for a copy of the invitation and RSVP card.
