On Saturday, November 9, the MHS Girls Swim Team competed in the Nassau County Team Championships. After a strong preliminary performance on Friday, the girls had their sights set on swimming even faster on Saturday at the finals. On Friday, Manhasset qualified 14 individual swims in the top 10 and all three relays. The team also had an additional 7 swims in the consolation finals (places 11-20). On Saturday, the top 20 individuals and relays compete in each event, all finishers scoring points towards their team total.
In the championship’s opening event, the 200 yd. medley relay team from Manhasset set the tone for what turned out to be a historic day in Manhasset Girls Swimming. The relay team of Grace Kenlon, Allegra Sodi, Megan Smith and Meredith Johnson finished third and set a new school record time of 1:51.96, also qualifying for the New York State Championships.
In the 200 yd. individual medley, Manhasset swimmers Madeleine Quinn and Kylie Mulholland swam personal best times over the weekend to qualify for the NYS Championships. Madeleine’s time of 2:09.15 in preliminaries was also a new school record.
Manhasset’s top scoring event of the team finals was the 500yd freestyle. At Saturday’s finals, swimmers Madeleine Quinn, Kylie Mulholland, Giorgia Piantanida and Julia Henry finished 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 12th, respectively. Madeleine’s time of 5:07.40 was a new school record. Madeleine and Kylie are both NYS qualifiers in this event.
The Championship was almost complete for the Indians when they qualified for the State Championships in their signature relay, the 200yd. freestyle. The relay team of Madeline Kang, Kylie Mulholland, Sarah Henry and Madeleine Quinn finished 3rd in a time of 1:41.02. This is the 9th time in team history that a MHS girls 200yd. freestyle relay team has qualified for states.
In the next event, the 100yd. backstroke, sophomore Grace Kenlon swam a 1:00.10 to break her own school record and pass that elusive cut-off to qualify for the NYS Championships.
At Friday’s preliminaries, freshman Megan Smith swam a personal best time of 59.98 in the 100yd butterfly to qualify for the NYS Championships.
In the last event, the 400 free relay, the MHS relay team of Madeleine Quinn, Kylie Mulholland, Meredith Johnson and Madeline Kang shattered the old school record of 3:48.17 (2006), finishing 4th in a time of 3:43.98.
At the conclusion of a successful county meet, Manhasset set another school record by scoring 400 points to finish third overall in Nassau County.

Senior Sarah Henry swam a 2:03.82 in the 200yd Free.
Junior Alexa Durso swam a 2:05.17 in the 200yd Free and a 58.35 in the 100yd Free.
Sophomore Giorgia Piantanida swam a 2:02.02 in the 200yd Free and a 5:18.74 in the 500yd Free. Julia Henry swam a 2:01.91 in the 200yd Free and a 5:25.21 in the 500yd Free. Allegra Sodi swam a 2:21.51 and a 1:11.79 in the 100yd Breaststroke. Meredith Johnson swam a 1:01.43 in the 100yd Backstroke.
9th Grader Olivia Garvey swam a 57.94 in the 100yd Free and a 1:06.01 in the 100yd Backstroke.
8th Grader Garrity Kuester swam a 2:29.63 in the 200yd IM. Rose Marie Donnell swam a 27.37 in the 50yd Freestyle.
