Week two and the Church of St. Mary CYO girls program is already in high gear. Lots of action this past weekend.
PJ Barry’s eighth grade girls beat St. Pius 26-24. The girls overcame an early 10-0 deficit. Tara Belinsky scored the winning basket on a tough turnaround jump shot with just nine seconds to play. Amelia Barry led the defense with three blocked shots.
The girls eighth grade team (Connolly/Glynn) had yet another close game this weekend beating Sacred Heart 28-21. Down by two points with four minutes to go and tied at 20 with two minutes left, the girls exploded to score eight straight points. Kelsey Connolly, Julia Glynn, Natalie Stefan and Abby Kucharczyk all hit key baskets. The team’s trapping press was the key, led by Paulina Parsons, Emily Koufakis and Kelly Kenlon. Emily Sears, Lizzie Bunger, Sara Vidal and Angelica Cramer contributed with outstanding defense.
Action this weekend won’t just be trick or treating as this Sunday will see three games at Immaculata Hall beginning at noon. Come and catch the sixth graders and the fourth graders in hoopsteria.
