Saturday, Nov. 7 at Bethpage Park, the Manhasset Boys Cross-Country team won their 10th county championship. The team has won four titles since the year 2000 (’03, ’05, ’08, ’09).
The team ran as a pack with Manhasset’s number 1 runner being 45 seconds ahead of Manhasset’s number 5 runner. With the team concept so strong the athletes easily outran their chief rivals – North Shore, Seaford, Valley Stream North, Wantagh and Lynbrook.
This year’s team has turned out to be one of Coach Scott’s strongest overall teams. The team was ranked third overall in Section 8 (Nassau County (large-small schools) and third in New York State B classification.
In the county championship race, Senior Captain Joe Nassirian led Manhasset over the 5K Bethpage course (16:33) for second place in county band all-county honors. This was Nassirian’s personal best time on the Bethpage course. Charlie Morris (10) was Manhasset’s second-place runner (16:38) for a personal best by 22 seconds and all-county honors. Manhasset’s third runner Captain Patrick Love (12) ran (16:56) for his personal best and all-county honors. Stephen Bourguet (9) (a newcomer from last year’s team, has made the team so much stronger), was fourth (17:00). Captain Andrew Choi (12) had his best race of the season followed by Jon Thomas (11), who’s coming back stronger than ever off an injury and Senior Captain Joe Zahn, seventh, who has been the strength of our team.
