On May 16, the Manhasset Girls Varsity Softball Team won their Conference III Title and finished the season with an outstanding record of 15-4 in Conference III and 16-4 overall, the best all time record in Manhasset history.
The Indians played “with heart and never gave up” according to their two coaches Gaylardo and Halsworth who credited the team for beating back strong competition from highly ranked teams like Valley Stream North and South.
Leading the team to its historic season victory were junior class pitchers Anastasia Barnes (6 wins, 1 loss) and Kristen Leung (10 wins, 3 losses). Leading the team in home runs were freshman Alex Wysota with three and sophomore Tobi Simon with two, respectively. Co-captains Kristen Leung and Rachel DiAndrea were positive team leaders and Rachel led the team offensively in RBI’s and on base percentages. According to catcher Jessie Colletti who was also a powerhouse hitter this season, “our coaches kept us positive and motivated. Making the playoffs for the first time is really exciting!” This is a team that has played all season at such a high level including at one point a 13 game winning streak. Congratulations on this finest ever performance.
