For the fifth consecutive year, athletes in the Massapequa Public School District have shown they've got what it takes when it comes to good sportsmanship.
Through the Nassau County Sportsmanship Awards Program, the Chiefs accumulated enough "sportsmanship points" at their varsity sporting events last season to finish as a "Top Ten School" in the Nassau County Sportsmanship Award contest.
The points are generated from information received from all officials, umpires and sports coordinators who observe the athletes' approach to good sportsmanship throughout the season.
"We are very proud to be recognized once again as a top sportsmanship school, and will continue to prioritize the development of good sportsmanship as an important initiative for our students and community," stated John Piropato, district director of health, physical education and athletics. The primary goal of the award, which is in its ninth year of existence, is to increase the public's awareness of good sportsmanship at all Nassau County sporting events.
