The Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 15 of Nassau County and Massapequa, proudly presents an evening of Irish entertainment with live traditional Irish music by renowned Irish Entertainer Ed Ryan, and featuring Champion Irish Step dancers, with a performance by the Tara Pipes and Drums of Massapequa. The Plainedge Public Library, 1060 Hicksville Rd. in North Massapequa, is hosting a summer reading club for children entering grades 2 through 5 this September. The club runs from July 9 through August 1 and children come to the library once a week for reporting, stickers and prizes. The library will provide all materials the first week of the program. This is not a drop-off program. Reporting for stickers and prizes will take 5 to 10 minutes, after which each child will be brought back to their adult/parent. YES Community Counseling Center will be conducting an active parenting program for parents of elementary school age children at our Massapequa office, at 75 Grand Ave., running for six weeks beginning July 10, from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. The cost is $60. Parenting, like any other skill, is something learned, and learning “on the job” can be frustrating. Active Parenting is perhaps the most effective program ever offered in the “how to” of raising children.
Massapequa Park resident John Carpenter, also known as the Movie Man, will screen “Chandu the Magician” at the East Meadow Library at 1886 Front St. on July 12 at 1 p.m. The 1932 film is the precursor to “Indiana Jones” style action-adventure movies and stars Bela Lugosi, of Dracula fame. This rollicking flick is perfect for all ages.
