The Massapequa Public Library, 40 Harbor Ln., will host an art workshop led by Gloria Glick. The workshop will commence Jan. 8 and run for eight Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Pre-registration is required by Dec. 18. Grace Episcopal Church, 23 Cedar Shore Dr., sponsors the first in a series of music concerts featuring outstanding professional musicians from the Church and Day School and from the world of concert music at 5 p.m. Dec. 22. Featured performers for the December concert will be David Hairston II, organ, Grace Church Choir director and organist; Theresa De.Cou-Greenberg, French Horn, Grace Day School Music Educator and Jeffrey A Kaufman, noted hand bell performer. The program will include works by: Johann Sebastian Bach, Johannes Brahms, Adolphe Adams, Michael Praetorius, Peter Tchaikovsky and others. The concerts, followed by a modest reception, are being held in the Church located on Merrick Rd. and Cedar Shore Drive and are open to the entire community. Children are free, but a donation of $5 per adult would be appreciated. The proceeds will be used to support and expand the music program at Grace Church and Day School. The Massapequa Public Library hosts a unique event from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., as adults and seniors are invited to the Central Avenue location’s Children’s Room for an electronic device demonstration and tutoring session led by some of Massapequa’s most tech-savvy teens. Adults and seniors can bring their eReader, Smartphone, tablet, Nook and anything else they have trouble operating and neighborhood young people will guide them with troubleshooting tips. Any teens that participate will receive community service credit. There is no registration fee and refreshments will be served.
The Massapequa Public Library, 40 Harbor Ln., invites everyone to this class to experience the benefits of yoga practice from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Rather than floor work, attendees will be seated in chairs for certain yoga postures, while using the chairs as support for standing postures. This class is well-suited for seniors, pregnant women and those who cannot get down of the floor. Bring a yoga mat. Pre-registration is required. The cost is $24 for all sessions ($3 per session). The library, 40 Harbor Ln., hosts an art workshop for painters with some prior experience using oils and acrylics. Beginners can paint using oil pastels, regular pastels or colored pencils. Mixed media also included for consideration. Workshop may include portraits, still life, teacher’s reference materials or photographs. The Massapequa Library presents a musical performance featuring Danny Kean and Friends in a soulful concert of R&B, blues, rock and jazz. During this educational, family-oriented workshop, at the Bar Harbour Children’s Room of the Massapequa Public Library, 40 Harbor Ln. from 7 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., learn helpful tips on ways to reach children about money. Learn age-appropriate ways to help children earn and appreciate their allowance; develop good savings and investing habits; know the difference between wants and needs; become disciplined shoppers; and much more.
