The Massapequa Bar Harbour Library, 40 Harbor Ln., welcomes all to its annual winter blood drive, Dec. 28 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. As an added bonus to helping those in need of blood, all donors will be entered into a sweepstakes for one pair of tickets to Super Bowl XLVIII in New Jersey, thanks to a partnership between the 2014 Super Bowl Host Committee and the New York Blood Center. The Massapequa Public Library hosts a unique event from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., as adults and seniors are invited to the Central Avenue location’s Children’s Room for an electronic device demonstration and tutoring session led by some of Massapequa’s most tech-savvy teens. Adults and seniors can bring their eReader, Smartphone, tablet, Nook and anything else they have trouble operating and neighborhood young people will guide them with troubleshooting tips. Any teens that participate will receive community service credit. There is no registration fee and refreshments will be served.
Holy Trinity Orthodox Church of East Meadow will have its service of the Great Blessing of the Water for the Feast of Theophany at Alhambra Beach of Massapequa on Monday, Jan. 6 at 1 p.m. This service follows the Divine Liturgy to be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. at the church, 369 Green Ave. in East Meadow. The Massapequa Public Library, 40 Harbor Ln., invites everyone to this class to experience the benefits of yoga practice from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Rather than floor work, attendees will be seated in chairs for certain yoga postures, while using the chairs as support for standing postures. This class is well-suited for seniors, pregnant women and those who cannot get down of the floor. Bring a yoga mat. Pre-registration is required. The cost is $24 for all sessions ($3 per session). The library, 40 Harbor Ln., hosts an art workshop for painters with some prior experience using oils and acrylics. Beginners can paint using oil pastels, regular pastels or colored pencils. Mixed media also included for consideration. Workshop may include portraits, still life, teacher’s reference materials or photographs. Class size is limited and there is a $55 fee due at registration. Additional $5 per person for each model sitting may be required. No refunds unless the class is cancelled. The Massapequa Library presents a musical performance featuring Danny Kean and Friends in a soulful concert of R&B, blues, rock and jazz. This program is presented in cooperation with the Tobay Department of Community and Youth Services, Cultural and Performing Arts Division, Distinguished Artists Concert Series. YES Community Counseling Center, 75 Grand Ave., will be conducting an Active Parenting program for parents of elementary school children beginning Jan. 15 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for six weeks.
