Raising Financially Responsible Children

During this educational, family-oriented workshop, at the Bar Harbour Children’s Room of the Massapequa Public Library, 40 Harbor Ln. from 7 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., learn helpful tips on ways to reach children about money. Learn age-appropriate ways to help children earn and appreciate their allowance; develop good savings and investing habits; know the difference between wants and needs; become disciplined shoppers; and much more. Blood Drive

Last Hope Animal Rescue hosts a jewelry sale and flea market to support its efforts to take care of the island’s pet population. Flapjack Fundraiser

The Massapequa Varsity Baseball team is sponsoring an Applebee’s Flapjack Fundraiser to help defray the cost of the team playing at the Disney All Star Sports Resort in April. The event will be help at Applebee’s at 200 Airport Plaza in East Farmingdale at 8 a.m. Tickets are $12 and $6 for children 10 and under. The players will be serving guests a breakfast that includes pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs and beverages. Come down and support the team. Join the South Shore Audubon Society for a bird walk at Massapequa Lake from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Feb. 2. The walk leaders and other birders and nature enthusiasts will be happy to share their knowledge and experience with attendees. The bird walk is free. Bring binoculars.
