Aidan Urquiola, a pre-k student at Portledge School recently took third place in the Create Something Great Recycled Sculpture Contest.
Sponsored by Portledge School and the Cradle of Aviation Museum, the contest is a hands-on learning experience for budding artists across Long Island. Students were encouraged to build sculptures made out of recycled and/or reusable materials designed around the theme of transportation (by land, air or sea).
Students from pre-k through sixth grade submitted 83 sculptures. Awards were presented in three age categories based on overall aesthetic value and creative use of recycled materials. All participants received a certificate of participation and winners received a gift card for art supplies as well as tickets to the Cradle of Aviation Museum and theater.
