At a recent FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology) competition, the Plainedge High School Robotics Team #527 was honored with the competition’s prestigious Chairman’s Award. It honors the team that best represents a model for other teams to emulate and best embodies the purpose and goals of FIRST, whose mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders.
The core values the judges look for are building and sustaining a team, helping others, spreading the message of FIRST, mentoring, gracious professionalism and cooperation. The team had to submit an essay and video for consideration of the award, which they were presented with at the SBPLI Hofstra Regional. Team #527 now qualifies to compete for the Chairman’s Award at the national championship in St. Louis at the end of April.
