Casey Vieni has been named Plainedge High School’s Class of 2012 valedictorian and Alanna Ticali has been honored as its salutatorian.
For the past 13 years, these two students have strived for the best, in the process, achieving their goals at the highest levels.
With a grade point average of 107.50, Casey Vieni is no stranger to success. This year alone he has been named an Intel Science Research semifinalist, an AP Scholar with Distinction, and a Commended National Merit scholar. He serves as president of the National Honor Society and vice-president of the Science Honor Society, and is a member of the Tri-M, English, Math, and Ben Franklin Honor Societies. He has participated in numerous science and math competitions, as well.
Athletically, Casey has been captain of the varsity volleyball team for the past two years and has won the MVP Award. He also received All-Conference recognition and was named an All-County athlete for his achievements on the varsity tennis team. Musically, he is involved in the school’s marching band, for which he plays clarinet and saxophone.
Casey has volunteered for many causes over the years. He currently works as a head lifeguard in East Meadow and plans to study physics/pre-med at SUNY Stony Brook in the fall.
Equally as impressive with a 106.40 average, Salutatorian Alanna Ticali has made her mark in various fields. Currently serving as vice president of the National Honor Society, she is also a member of the school’s Math, Science, and English Honor Societies and has participated in both the Intel Science Talent Search and as the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair (LISEF) competitions for her advanced science research.
Alanna is a drum major in the marching band, co-president of the Drama Club and editor-in-chief of the Class of 2012 yearbook. She has held the lead role in eight school productions, participated in the All-County Choir for two years in a row, and been named an AP Scholar with Honor award recipient. She is employed at Pediatric Health Associates and plans to major in biology at Colgate University in the fall.
