The Sons of Italy-Columbus Lodge of Farmingdale/Massapequa area received sad news on Tuesday, May 4 when it was reported that Judge Angelo Roncallo, a founding member of the lodge, died. It was Judge Roncallo, P. Vincent Landi, and Dominick Baranello’s inspiration and fortitude that created and instituted the Columbus Lodge #2143 as a part of the Order Sons of Italy in America in 1964.
The 83-year-old Massapequa resident served as the lodge’s second president (1966-67) and was one of five members to receive the prestigious Bene Emeritus Award, NYS Sons of Italy’s top honor. Roncallo was a Manhattan College graduate and received his law degree from Georgetown University in 1953. Professionally, he served in the U.S. House of Representatives (1973-75) and later as NY Supreme Court Justice (1977-95).
The Columbus Lodge is a not-for-profit fraternal organization. The lodge offers its members various social and recreational activities and its charitable donations to local charities and scholarship program have made it a fabric on the community.
