Editorial: So Long

This issue of The Massapequan Observer will be my final one as editor. I will still be working at Anton Community Newspapers, only for a different publication. You need to have some fun in journalism and these past seven years covering Massapequa has been exactly that. The civic pride, the cultural and athletic events, the stupendous parades and especially, the character of its people have all made Massapequa a great town to write about. Thanks to the people at village hall: Peggy Caltabiano, Carol Salembier, Linda Tuminello and Mayor James Altadonna. Thanks also to Felicia Febrizio at BOCES, to Jody Brower at the Massapequa Library, to John Carpenter (The Movie Man, easily America’s leading authority on the films from Hollywood’s Golden Age), to Lisa Zampolin for all the fine submissions, to Virginia Riccardi also for the school coverage and finally, to John Meyer, who is the village’s finest living historian. I can’t mention (or remember) all of you who assisted me greatly by sending in articles, photos and story ideas, so let this simple “thank you” suffice. Welcome the new editor, Ron Scaglia. Ron is a longtime Massapequa resident who knows the village inside and out. Many of you may know him already and he will do an outstanding job as editor.
