Over 500 runners crossed the finish line of the 18th annual David Lerner Associates Long Island Police Appreciation Run, held in Eisenhower Park on Thursday evening, June 11, and athletes from the Massapequas came home with way more than their fair share of the awards.
The first local finisher was 54 year-old John Daly of Massapequa, who finished in 11th place overall and 2nd in the 50-54 age group, with a time of 17 minutes, 45 seconds.
Other award winners from the local area were Daniel Psomas of Massapequa (1st 20-24 age group), Jessica Hamilton of Massapequa Park (2nd woman 25-29 age group), Mary Ann McLeod of Massapequa (2nd woman 35-39 age group), Greg Karl of Massapequa Park (1st 60-64 age group), Kevin Healy of Massapequa Park (2nd 60-64 age group), and John Niesen of Massapequa Park (2nd 80 and over age group).
After days of gloom and doom predictions for Thursday evening, June 11, the weather at Eisenhower Park for the David Lerner Associates Long Island Police Appreciation Run was overcast and cool – perfect running conditions on what proved to be a very fast new course.
