Playoff season is here and Massapequa High School athletic squads are continuing their winning ways.
The boys’ lacrosse squad has been undefeated in Conference I play and the opening round of the playoffs was no different as they breezed past Hicksville, 14-1. Ian Kirby, Brandon Savona, Paul Bentz, and Craig Berge all scored more than one goal, while Wyatt Russo and Joe Danaher took turns in the goalie area, keeping Hicksville shots out of the net. The Chiefs now advance to the semifinal round in a Tuesday, May 22 game against Port Washington.
The girls’ softball squad also advanced to the semifinals with a convincing 4-1 win over Carey High School. Renee Valano starred on both the mound and at the plate, pitching a two-hitter and hitting a key double. Rachel Siever and Alyssa Zinkoiewicz also had productive games at the plate. The semifinal game was Thursday, May 17 against East Meadow and coverage will appear in next week’s edition of The Massapequan Observer.
The varsity baseball squad was set to join the winning parade. However, the weather interceded as the Tuesday, May 15 game against Baldwin was rained out. The game was re-scheduled for Wednesday, May 16. Results will appear also in next week’s edition.
The Chiefs closed the regular season with a flourish, defeating Farmingdale in three straight contests. Jon Mulford won two of the games, while Ryan McCormick pitched a complete game shutdown in the 5-0 May 7 win.
The lacrosse team likewise closed their regular season with big wins over Baldwin and MacArthur to finish undefeated in Conference I play.
