Honors For Local Scholar Athletes

Kelsey O’Brien of Massapequa High School and Daniel Reilly Jr. of Wantagh High School are among the Long Island students who have been named as Scholar Athletes by News 12 Long Island and Capital One Bank. Katherine Paolano of Cold Spring Harbor and Kasey Stolba of Harborfields High School are the 2011 – 2012 high school Scholar Athlete Scholarship recipients.

Additionally, each of the 30 students received $1,000 scholarships from Capital One Bank. The scholarships were presented at the 25th Annual News 12 Long Island Scholar Athlete awards dinner at the Woodbury Country Club on Monday, June 11.

“These amazing Long Island graduating seniors are at the top of their class in terms of both academic and athletic achievement,” said Pat Dolan, president of News 12 Networks and News Director for News 12 Long Island. “We congratulate all of the students, their families and their schools. News 12 is committed to recognizing the remarkable achievements of all students on Long Island, and we wish the students continued success.”

News 12 Long Island’s senior sports correspondent Bob Wolff and sports director Kevin Maher co-hosted this year’s celebration.  The awards concluded with Wolff’s rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” to which he sang and played the ukulele.
