The Massapequa High School girls’ lacrosse team lost a heartbreaker to Farmingdale, 11-9, in the county championship last Wednesday—coming in second to the top-seeded team for the eighth consecutive season.
Rosie Pimental’s goal gave Massapequa a 5-2 lead 49 seconds into the second half, but Farmingdale charged back with four unanswered goals.
After Farmingdale’s four-goal outburst, Massapequa kept pace with goals of their own, with tallies from Madeline Lee and Hayley Burke, among others. But the Daler’s championship touched proved too much for the Chiefs, as Tara Wahl put the game out of reach with a goal with less than six minutes remaining.
Farmingdale’s victory over the Chiefs at Adelphi earned the Dalers’ their 12th Nassau County Class A crown in the past 13 years and punched their ticket to the Long Island Championship this past Sunday, where they won their first Long Island Class A title since 2010, defeating Bay Shore, 12-11.
Massapequa finished the season with an 8-8 record, while Farmingdale went 13-3 in their championship year.
