Local Runners Score in ASPIRE Run

Congratulations to John Daly of Massapequa, Bob Spina of Massapequa, Bridget Conaghan of Massapequa, Greg Karl of Massapequa Park, and Ruth Maller of Massapequa Park, each of whom scored with trophies in the 33rd annual running of the Nationwide 10-Kilometer Run for ASPIRE, held on the roads of Plainview and Old Bethpage on March 27.

Daly crossed the finish line at the H.B. Mattlin Middle School in Plainview in 27th place overall and 3rd in the 55-59 age group, Spina scored in third place in the 45-49 age group, Conaghan earned the third place award in the Athena 140 to 159 Weight Division, Karl took third place in the 60-64 age group, and at age 81 Maller was the oldest female finisher and first in the women’s 80-plus age group.

Special thanks to Race Director Bob Windorf and the host Greater Long Island Running Club for another job well done, and to Tony Wiszowaty of Nationwide Insurance for continuing his support for this event again. The Runner’s Edge and Mizuno also returned as much valued sponsors.

The entire net proceeds of the run are turned over to the ASPIRE Program for the support and rehabilitation of young amputees, victim of sarcoma and traumatic amputations, and lots of young amputees were on hand to participate in the run once again this year.
