While work continues at the Roslyn Road grade crossing, the new road that is depressed under the railroad tracks is now open. Motorists traveling north and south on Roslyn Road no longer have to stop at the railroad gates when there is a train present.

"I am glad that this project has reached this very important stage. We will continue to closely monitor it and work with Mineola Mayor Jack M. Martins, other village officials, and the state DOT to ensure that the needs of Mineola residents are taken into account and that the final result will be a better, safer, and less congested Roslyn Road for the region," said Senator Craig M. Johnson.

Residents of the adjacent Birchwood Court complex may still have trouble making a left out of the complex to head north on Roslyn Road. Birchwood Court resident Russ Sutherland said it is difficult getting out of the complex onto Roslyn Road since there are only two lanes open - one northbound lane on Roslyn Road and one southbound lane. He said that the front end of a car while making the turn could veer into the southbound lane.

There are plans to eventually open another northbound and southbound lane so that there will be two lanes in each direction. The approximate opening for those lanes is late July.
