Tax Talk

Charles Berman, Receiver of Taxes of Town  North Hempstead will host discussion of STAR, Senior Citizens, Veterans and other tax exemptions on Thursday, Sept. 19 at The Wheatley School in Room 450 at 7:30 p.m. All property owners who currently receive the basic star exemption must register with the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance in order to receive the exemption for the 2014-15 and subsequent school years.

Gladiator Fund Golf Classic

The New Hyde Park Gladiator Fund will hold a golf outing to benefit Neil Duggan, New Hyde Park Class of 1976 at Clearview Golf Course on Willets Point Blvd on Friday, Sept. 13. He was recently diagnosed with cancer. Cost is $175, but $200 after Aug. 23. There’s a 6:30 a.m. registration and continental breakfast, followed by a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start with dinner at the Inn at New Hyde Park at 2 p.m. Dinner is $75.

Post 144 Installation Dinner

American Legion Post 144 will hold its Annual Installation Dinner on Saturday, Sept. 28 at the Legion Hall located at 730 Willis Avenue, Williston Park.  Cocktails at 6 p.m. will be followed by the formal Installation Ceremony of Commander Frank Oliveri and his staff at 7 p.m. The installation will be followed by a dinner catered by Skalberg Caterers with an open ban, music and dancing.  Tickets are $25 per person.  Contact Don Sassano at 516-747-3945 for ticket and seating information. Thrift Shop

The thrift shop sponsored by Resurrection and St. Aidan Churches will reopen Sept. 12.  There is a new supply of mostly all items including house wears, jewelery, clothing etc.  Hours are Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.  Resurrection Church is located at the corner of Campbell Ave. and Center St., Williston Park.  For any further information, call 516-746-5527.

Corpus Christi CYO Basketball

Boys and girls grades 3 to high school and k-2 clinic can register for CYO basketball. Practices and games start in September. Clinics will begin in December for kindegarten through second-grade. $125 Per child for travel teams/uniform additional $40, $90 Per child for k-2 clinic includes T-shirt. Mineola Bocce Group Meets Thursdays

The Mineola Bocce Group meets on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. at Wilson Park’s Bocce Court in Mineola. The group invites all interested Bocce players to join for a game. The bocce court is available seven days a week. If you have any questions, please contact Joe Mariani at 631-978-1324.

90th Anniversary Dinner Dance

Knights of Columbus Corpus Christi Council #2502 will hold its 90th anniversary dinner dance Saturday, Nov. 9, 6 to 11 p.m.. The hall is located at 186 Jericho Turnpike in Mineola.
