Book Discussion Group

STOP Program

This year’s second STOP (Stop Throwing Out Pollutants) Program will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Rain date Sept. 28) at the Winters Brothers facility located at the end of Morris Avenue in Glen Cove.

Beach Cleanup At Pryibil

Volunteers are needed to participate in the 27th annual International Coastal Beach Cleanup on Saturday, Sept. 21.(Rain date will be Saturday, Sept. 28). This event is one of the world’s largest volunteer data gathering efforts on behalf of the marine environment. Volunteers are needed to help clean the beaches and inventory litter on data cards provided by the American Littoral Society.  This information will then be forwarded to The Ocean Conservancy in Washington D.C. who will review each tallied item indicated on the data cards and report on the status of our waterways worldwide. Volunteers are asked to meet at Pryibil Beach at 9 a.m. All volunteers will receive a certificate of appreciation from the American Littoral Society as well as refreshments generously provided by the Glen Cove Diner. Beach Cleanup At Tappen And Sea Cliff

The Coalition to Save Hempstead Harbor will be coordinating a beach cleanup as part of the Annual International Coastal Cleanup sponsored by Ocean Conservancy in cooperation with the American Littoral Society. Volunteers will meet at Tappen and Sea Cliff Beaches at 9:30 a.m. If you can help, call 801-6792.

Silly Shakespeare In Sea Cliff

The Sea Cliff Silly Shakespeare Company will present The Real Housewives Of Henry The Eighth, a performance to celebrate the end of the summer, just in time for the fall equinox, on Saturday Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. at the Sea Cliff Beach Arts Pavilion (rain date Sunday, Sept. 22, at 5 p.m.).

Aaron Sorkin’s A Few Good Men 

A unique performance of the courtroom drama, A Few Good Men by Aaron Sorkin, will take place at the North Shore Historical Museum at 8 p.m. The restored 1907 Justice Court Building, located at140 Glen Street in Glen Cove,

is the perfect setting for this courthouse drama produced by EastLine Productions Ltd.

Three of the five owners of EastLine productions,  Beverly Bell, Esq., Timothy O’Rourke, Esq. and Eve Lupenko M.D, are local residents.

This fundraising event will benefit NSHM. Admission is $25 per person and can be purchased in advance by sending checks, made out to NSHM to: NSHM PO Box 217, Glen Cove NY 11542.

Memorial Golf Outing

The 5th Annual St. Paul’s Church Michael Galluccio Memorial Golf Outing will be held on Sept. 23 at 7 a.m. at the Glen Cove Golf Course. This will be a shotgun scramble style golf tournament, and includes a 50/50 raffle, a closest to the pin contest, a longest drive contest, the new “Better Shot than the Priest” contest, a hole in one contest, and baskets with additional prizes. The outing includes a luncheon at the The View Grill after play concludes.
