Audrey Rome, a Mineola High School class of 2005 and LIU Post alumni is a quarterfinalist in the inaugural Grammy Music Educator Awards, a new category announced this year to honor music teachers.
The Williston Park resident Rome was winner of the 2009 Caitlin Hurrey Collegiate Professional Achievement Scholarship at Post. As president of the college chapter of MENC – the National Association for Music Education, she initiated new outreach programs, including a music education program for home-schooled students, and a PreK-16 partnership program in which student teachers teach music to children with special needs in local school districts.
Ten finalists will be selected, including one winner, who will be flown to Los Angeles to accept the award and attend the Grammys, and receive a $10,000 honorarium. All other finalists will receive a $1,000 honorarium.
Semifinalists will be announced in August. For more information, visit www.grammymusicteacher.com.
