Eleven Wheatley School students experienced a recent vacation they will never forget. They traveled to Paris and the south of France accompanied by Wheatley teachers Jean François Henley and Laura Gurick. The group spent three days touring the sites of Paris including the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and the Louvre while practicing their language skills with the locals.
The students and teachers spent an afternoon at L’Atelier des Gâteaux where they had a private cooking lesson and learned to make almond sandwich cookies called macarons. They also visited The Palace of Versailles before traveling south to Provence and Nice where they experienced Carnaval complete with music, dance, floats and costumes and took advantage of the warm temperatures to swim in the Mediterranean.
They made a quick visit to the Exotic Gardens of Eze and Monaco before returning home.
“There is nothing like being immersed in a completely different culture,” junior Sarah Golden said.
The students included Alexandra Boubour, Benjamin Goldbaum, Sarah Golden, Maria Hincapié of Mineola, Joseph Jacob, Amandeep Khokhar, Bonnie Lerman, Gabriella Schwartz, Chloe Tso, Chelsea Wolgel and Nancy Zhang.
