Beacon Church is hosting its first annual DADfest, a free event open to everyone, on Sunday, June 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 65 East Williston Ave. in East Williston.
The Father’s Day event will have fun activities, including Dad Wars, jousting, wrestling suits, a football toss, a dunk tank, sports and games and a family photo booth. There will be a Fire and Ice Show by Mad Science of Long Island for kids at 1 p.m. Official food vendors include New Hyde Park eateries Paulie’s Ices, and Fire House BBQ, as well as Manorville’s Hot Diggity Dog Truck.
Raffle prizes will include deep tissue sport massages from a certified Licensed Massage Therapist, dinner for two at Westbury Manor, admission tickets to Splish Splash theme park, a certificate to Umberto’s Pizzeria and Restaurant in New Hyde Park and apparel from Manhattan to Montauk in East Quogue. The event will also be featuring a Best BBQ competition (anyone can enter at visitbeacon.com) with prizes including New York Yankees tickets, “A Week’s Worth of Polos” (worth approx. $500) donated by Brooks Brothers in Manhasset, and fishing excursions on the Superhawk Party Boat in Point Lookout.
The BBQ judging will begin at 1 p.m. Judges will include Donna Drake, host of Long Island’s Live It Up, Joan Gallo, owner of Biscuits and Barbeque in Mineola, and Matthew Broder, a former executive chef and 20-year veteran of the food industry.
“In modern-day life, fathers are under incredible pressure and face mounting burdens in leading families, advancing in their careers and doing good and noble things in their community. Beacon wants to celebrate and equip these fathers with the tools they need to be the “real men” of our community,” said Pastor Robert Kelly of Beacon Church.
Proceeds and donations from the event will benefit the nonprofit organization International Justice Mission, which fights human trafficking.
