Mineola residents were packed to the gills at a public hearing last week that addressed the special use permit application of Wei Ji Lin to establish a Chinese take-out restaurant on Old Country Road. The restaurant would sit in a row of stores located between Juniper Avenue and Geranium Avenue on Old Country Road. It seems like the perfect spot to complement the fairly new Kemistry Restaurant and Lounge and stores of the like.
However, unlike most restaurants in the area, it would sit directly south of residential housing, particularly Geranium and Juniper Avenues. Various residents said that they’re inconvenienced already by restaurant-goers parking illegally to “get a quick bite” and the smells and odors that have been emanating from restaurants nearby.

With each click of a button and zoom of the lens, Joel Weber feels the life rushing into his eyes. With each photo, comes a story.
Weber feels all photos have a story, even if a person or living thing doesn’t grace an 8 x11 frame. It’s more about composition, according to the artist and that the structure of the photo is what tells the tale. That’s what he was trying to convey in the Mineola Library’s Walter and Joan Hobbs Gallery last week.
It became official last week that the MTA plans to cut its funding to Long Island Bus, a move that will effectively eliminate all bus service to over 100,000 Nassau County residents who rely on it daily. A war of words between Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and the MTA has now escalated to a legal battle, with the county filing suit over the controversial MTA employer payroll tax.

Mineola School District Superintendent Dr. Michael Nagler presented bond proposals for construction on school reconfiguration on July 22. These bonds would need to be passed by vote to be implemented if district residents vote to not reconfigure under the default option one configuration.

The heat has been blazing, the sun hasn’t helped and Mother Nature hasn’t spared a drop or two of her tears to help out in the heat wave that has rocked Long Island in 2010. Mineola has.
