Residents will vote for school board candidates on May 19..
A resident of Williston Park, Chris Napolitano is running unopposed for a three-year term on the Mineola School Board. She is filling the seat held by Steve Siwinski, who has decided to retire from the board. Napolitano has three daughters, two of whom graduated from Mineola High School and a third who is a freshman at the high school.
A resident of Williston Park, Kathy Darmstadt is running for the Mineola School Board, challenging incumbent John McGrath for a three-year term. Darmstadt has a daughter who has graduated from Mineola High School, a son who is attending Mineola Middle School and a son in sixth grade in Mineola Middle School.
A resident of Roslyn Heights, John McGrath is a veteran of the Mineola School Board, having been a member for 11 years. In that time, McGrath has seen many changes in the school district. He feels the district’s educational program is on the right path, which is why he voted in favor of hiring deputy superintendent Dr. Michael Nagler to take over as superintendent when Dr. Larry Licopoli retires at the end of June. It is also why McGrath has been adamant about not closing a school. He feels there isn’t enough of a savings for taxpayers to warrant potentially hurting the educational program.
