Christmas Concert To Feature Brass Quintet

There will be a flurry of noise and color at the Community Church of East Williston’s fourth annual Christmas concert on Sunday, Dec.15. The Severn River Brass Quintet will be in concert with Church Musical Director Raphael Fusco to help kick off the holiday season on a high note. Fusco has been working at the church since September and he is an accomplished composer, keyboardist, and conductor in the U.S. and in Europe.

“I am beyond excited that the quintet has agreed to take time out of their busy schedule to make a rare public appearance here in East Williston,” said Fusco. “The quintet is made up of some of the world’s finest brass players and we are very lucky to host them.”

The Severn River Brass Quintet is comprised of musicians who have studied at some of the best music schools and conservatories in the country, and who have extensive résumés in performance and teaching.

“I’ll be joining the quintet at the piano and organ in a program of traditional Christmas favorites as well as New York premieres of my Sonata for Trumpet and Piano and other upbeat works I have composed especially for the ensemble,” Fusco said. “The combination of brass and organ produces a truly awe-inspiring sound with a wide range of color and dynamics, and this concert will provide the community with the rare opportunity to hear these forces together.”

In this rare public appearance, the quintet will feature dazzling arrangements and premieres of new music composed for members of the ensemble by Fusco.

Past Christmas concerts at the Church have included the acclaimed brass ensemble The Wholly Brass Quintet, and organist, pianist and conductor, Carl Marucci as well as percussionist, Matthew Talmage.

This year’s Holiday Concert will take place at 2 p.m.  There will be a special reception where you can meet and greet the artists, while munching on holiday treats, following the performance.
