Village of East Williston Mayor David Tanner announced last week that this year’s recipient of the annual Mayors Award will be building inspector Robert Campagna.
“It was an unexpected surprise and honor when Mayor Tanner told me that I was being given this award,” Campagna said. “The mayor and village board have been very supportive, allowing me the ability to practice in a professional but fair manner.”
Campagnas has lived in East Williston for 30 years, holding the Building Inspector title for nearly 20 of them. He earned a BA in architecture in 1977, and has been a licensed architect for 35 years, specializing in residential alterations and additions.
According to Campagna, one of the greatest honors of his career was when then-mayor Nancy Zolezzi, and Tanner, who was a trustee at the time, asked Campagna to assist in doing a master plan for East Williston.
“What resulted was the expansion of the Village Hall, dedicated October 2010, increasing needed space for the library and village office, as well as bringing the building into compliance with handicapped accessibility,” Campagna said.
A ceremony will be held on Monday, May 26, where Campagna will receive the award on the Village Green. He will attend with his wife Vivian of 41 years and three children, Michael, Matthew and Elise.
