William Leo Grande passed awayon Feb. 13. Beloved husband of Pauline; loving father of Denise Murr; Dear father-in-law of Art; cherished grandfather of Matthew and devoted brother of Carl Leo Grande and Frances Calleo.
William proudly served his country with the Navy during WWII, was a former owner of Windsor Fuel Oil Co., a volunteer fireman with the East Williston Fire Department and was a member of the Albertson VFW. Flowers donations may be made to the East Williston Fire Dept. or the Sag Harbor Fire Dept.
Evelyn Koenig of Mineola died Jan. 13. She was the widow of the late George Koenig, devoted mother of Robert, his wife Jessica and loving grandmother of Jonathan. She was predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Anna Schroeder, who owned a bakery in Williston Park, and also by her brother, Fred. She was a graduate of Mineola High School and worked at Latham Lumber for over 40 years.
Koenig was a member of the Mineola Choral Society, where she met her husband. She was also a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a senior choir member. She also loved reading, pets, the New York Mets, music and bowling. Sservices were at St. John’s Lutheran Church; burial followed at Nassau Knolls Cemetery in Port Washington.
Services were held Friday, Jan. 11, for Mary Carullo, a homemaker and long-time resident of Mineola, who died at her home Jan 5. She was 86.
Ms. Carullo was the widow of the late Salvatore Carullo.
Marianne Preu passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the age of 94. She lived in Mineola for over 60 years and was retired from the Mineola Library.
Preu served as a Girl Scout Troop Leader for many years and was a member of the Mineola Presbyterian Church. She was actively involved in the Nassau County art community with her late husband, Harry Martin, and participated in establishing the arts gallery at the Mineola Library.
Mineola resident Nicholas D. Witkovsky died on Thursday, Oct. 11. He was a former president of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and a veteran of the United States Navy. A grandfather of 10, Witkovsky is survived by his wife Carol and children Michael (Vera), Debbie, Lorraine (Keith), Donna (Baily Bill), Robert (Lynaire), Alicia (Mitch) and his late son, Joseph.
Dean A. LaLima, of Albertson, tragically passed away at the age of 41 on Aug. 12. Manager of Grimaldi’s Restaurant in Garden City, LaLima was the son of John and Janis, brother of Robynelaine (Steven) Kostulias, godfather and uncle of Nicholas, Jesse and Steven Kelly.
Matthew R. Dower of Massapequa, formerly of Mineola, passed away on July 27, 2012. Father of Penelope Rose. Son of Barbara and Roy (Nina). Brother of Michael (Karol) and Caitlin Rose Moronta (Anthony). Grandson of Gerald Wachtel and husband of Jessica. Graduate of Kellenberg Memorial High School and Fordham University. Mary Etta (Meb Gleckler) Martin, the wife of Charles P. Martin and resident of Trumbull, CT died on July 13, 2012 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center. Born in Mineola, New York on January 6, 1931, the daughter of Harry and Margaret (Dolliver) Gleckler, she is survived by her husband and their seven children and their spouses: Cathleen and Vincent Prespentt of Farmington, New Mexico; Chuck and Julie of Waterford, Connecticut; Maureen and Tony Riggsbee of Youngsville, North Carolina; Tim and Maria of Plano, Texas; Theresa and Pete O’Callaghan of South Glastonbury, Connecticut; Pat of Seymour, Connecticut and Michael and Sharon of Seymour, Connecticut. She was the proud grandmother of 14 grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Margaret (Gleckler) Brose of Bellarie Bluffs, Florida; her brother Calvin Gleckler of Old Bethpage, New York, her brother-in-law James Martin and his wife Jacqueline of Pompano Beach, Florida; her sister-in-law Loretta Gleckler of Bayshore, New York, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by both of her parents and her brother Harry Gleckler.
Vincent A. Lupinacci of Mineola passed away on July 13, 2012. (Retired Detective NYPD, 32 years of service at 20th Pct., many years as Community Affairs Officer). Husband of the late Gladys. Father of Mary Ann, Anthony, Lisa, Michael and Ernest. Grandfather of Matthew, Paolo, Isabella and Georgia. Brother of Yolanda Sondi. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and his companion Fanny Criscuola. Arrangements were made by Cassidy Funeral Home Inc. Funeral Mass was July 23 at St. Brigid’s Church, Westbury. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery. Memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital appreciated.
Antoinette McCormack, longtime Mineola resident and clerk of the village court from 1978 to 1995 passed away on June 21, 2012 after a long illness. She was 88 years old.
Known affectionately to everyone as Teddy, she was born, along with her twin sister, Fran, in Westbury, to Erminia and Pasquale Siniscalchi on June 13, 1924. Since it was the Feast of St. Anthony, her parents named her Antoinette. Teddy remained devoted to St. Anthony all her life. Teddy was one of 11 brothers and sisters which included the late Anthony Sinisccalchi, Madeline Southard, Ernestine Walther, Joseph Sinischalchi. Mary Mosso, Thersese Wachter and Ann Rottkamp.
