George E. Ernst, 94, a resident at Willow Valley, formerly of Mineola, passed away peacefully on Oct. 16, 2011 at Arbor View at Willow Valley, Lancaster, PA. Born Dec. 23, 1916 in Queens, he was the son of the late George and Edna (Barden) Ernst. He was married to Gladys G. (Trafford) Ernst for over 68 years. A veteran of WWII, George proudly served with the U.S. Army.
Ian Angus Edward born Aug. 7, 1932 in Bristol, England, son of the late George Simpson Minty Edward and the late Gertrude Helen Edward nee Bulloch, died at Glen Cove Hospital, Aug. 30, 2011, aged 79 years.
At 13 Ian left boarding school and joined Her Majesty’s Royal Air force where he trained in munitions. From age 21 until the birth of his first child in 1979 Ian worked as an actor in the theater for 26 years, first in London and then in New York after his immigration to America in 1963. He married Joan Marie Hockenjos on April 1, 1978 at Corpus Christi Church. He and his wife settled down in Mineola to raise their family and he took work as a chauffeur/owner/operator of a limousine franchise.
Carmen F. “Sonny” Romuno, of Mineola, died on Aug. 21, 2011. He was a retired building inspector , Town of North Hempstead. Brother of Angela “Sugar” McBane. Uncle and godfather of Thomas (Deborah) and Richard (Lori) McBane. Great-uncle of Tommy, Taylor, Richard, Joseph and Halle. Arrangements were made by the Cassidy Funeral Home, Mineola. John C. Tringali, 89, of Duluth, GA, formerly of Mineola, died on Aug. 17, 2011. Husband of Irene. Father of Dorothy Serio ( Robert) and Joanne Snopkowski. Grandfather of Christopher J. Cestaro, Geoffery V. Cestaro, Thomas Snopkowski, Michael Weiss, Lisa Renz, Kim Byrne and the late Giro Cestaro III. Great-grandfather of five. He was a retired Nassau County Supreme Court clerk, US Army veteran of WWII, lifetime member of American Legion Post #349, Mineola. Arrangements were made by the Cassidy Funeral Home, Mineola. Helen Svoboda, formerly of Mineola, passed away after a long illness in Sun City Center, FL, on July 19, 2011. She was predeceased by her husband John, former leader of Boy Scout Troop 45 in Mineola. Burial was at Pinelawn National Cemetery, Farmingdale. She was active in the Eastern Star and a graduate of Mineola High School.

William Matthew Buehler, 84, of Kissimmee, FL, formerly of Mineola, died on July 4, 2011. Born on Sept. 6, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY, William was a NYC firefighter, Engine 205, Ladder 110, Brooklyn Heights, NY, for 33 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War and WWII. William was an avid fisherman, hunter and conservationist. He is survived by his loving wife Patricia Ann, daughter Mary Kay, sons William Matthew Jr., Christian Michael and John Hamil, sister Dorothy Brown, sister-in-law Virginia Buehler, eight grandchildren and preceded in death by his brother Richard Buehler. Memorial contributions may be made to Vitas Hospice, 2201 Lucien Way, Suite 100, Maitland, FL 32751. Inurnment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY.
