Written by Rich Forestano Friday, 10 August 2012 00:00I just finished chronicling Mineola American issues from 2006 to 2011 for an upcoming special edition and boy what a ride it has been. From the centennial celebration, to battling for village and school boards, to the Third Track Proposition that was met with ire by Long Island residents near and far.
The one story that dominated the last few years has been the development of the Winston Manor complex, which recently attained Nassau County Industrial Development Agency approval. It’s been at the forefront of the village’s psyche since 2008.
Let’s not forget the renaming of the Mineola pool in 2007. On June 16, 2007 the pool opened for another summer season but this time, the pool sported a new name. The pool was named after then-trustee John DaVanzo.
There will be plenty of time to read about the history of Mineola in the weeks to come. Now I only have eight months of 2012 to go to finish my project.
